Things that make you go hhmm.... 55

Is 48 old?

I don't think I'm old but I sure feel that way...

Maybe it is because of all the abuse that my body has been subjected to, and no, I don't mean that kind of self abuse....

I have had 4 surgeries on one of my knees which will eventually result in the replacement of both...

The sleep apnea is under control with a machine that cost me about $2000 but still not like a proper sleep...

The arthritis will never be under control, you just learn to live with a certain amount of pain....

No longer being able to drive truck for a living, which was my calling in this life but unable to continue with the screwed up knees, and having to work a sedentary job has contributed greatly to the massive weight problem I have now. Not just a little overweight, we're talking about 90 lb that I really need to get rid of but....

I'm tired now, maybe I'll get a little more get up and go once I get out of the house and on my way to work this morning...

Not sure.... maybe the weather has a little to do with it too....

Anyway....

Things that make you go hhmm.... 54

So, here we are in mid-winter near the end of January in Ontario, Canada and it is raining and has been for most of the day.

I know I've said it before but, what the hell is up with that?

Just what can you do on a rainy winter day?

Really can't shovel the crap coming down...

Haven't got TV to watch since giving up on the irregular billing by ExpressVu...

Went and did my laundry but that really was no fun....

My son is at his friends house paying whatever it is they play...

Took the dog out before I went to do the laundry and he wants nothing to do with anything that involves going outside in the rain...

Don't feel like cleaning up the house...

Started to watch one DVD but the PS2 decided that it couldn't read the thing at about the halfway point....

Guess it's this for about 15 minutes and then blog reading time....

Looks like I have no life.... wait a minute.... I don't!

Gonna have to see if I can beg, borrow or steal one.... Got no money to buy one....

Oh well, I always have work to look forward to.....

Crapp....

Things that make you go hhmm.... 53

I wonder if some people would keep the to the path they are following if they knew just how it made them look?

One instance is a lady that has no connections with the one company I know except that she has managed to get to the top of the heap and is making a complete and utter ass and pain in the ass of herself.

She has hit every single level of technical support in this company which includes engineers, both hardware and software, and yet she continues to harass the upper echelons of the company believing that no one has provided her with the correct technical answers to the issue she is experiencing.

If she is so frickin technical and supposedly knows that the resolutions offered to her are incorrect, why did she contact technical support in the first place?

There are far too many people who know nothing about computers that think they do.

The other point in this is, just where do they get the idea that they are the only person that a company has to make happy? We have hundreds of calls every day but the number of people that think they are the sole customer for each of the people on my team is ridiculous.

I had one guy who had an in-warranty product that did not want to follow process/procedure for exchange. I told him that I had the ability to circumvent any of the processes that he was objecting to and would setup a replacement for him. Because he did not think that he should have to troubleshoot the product and then follow process, he said that he would buy from someone else and hung up on me.

What kind of ass does that?

And for one last little piece, I contacted one customer who was so ticked off about a certain issue, I had to tell him at least three times to "SHUT UP" so I can offer the options I had for him. Once the ass shut the hell up, he found that the offers were more than a little to his benefit.

There is far too much "me, me, mine, mine, me first, me first" attitude in this world. If some of these assholes would stop and think about someone else for a change, they would be a whole lot better off.

I have hung up on only one person in my whole 12 years of doing tech support and it was really a stupid customer.

He had been disconnected from the technician who was assisting him and wanted to connect with that person again. After warning him about his language and attitude four or five times, I had him calmed down enough to actually talk sense with him. I told him that I would keep him on the line and as soon as the person he was talking to was free from the call she was on at that moment, I would transfer him to her. I said that I would put him on hold for a moment to check the see if she was available which is the point when he decided to call me a "fucking scumbag"

Now I ask, when someone is trying to help you and getting you exactly what you request, why would you insult him? This is how the assholes expect to get help? Do they not think that all of the people who have so far pissed them off have done so because of the jerkoff attitude they have taken with those people?

This is a whole truckload of crap and hhmmm....

Things that make you go hhmm.... 52

It is finally Friday.... the week is way too long and having Friday off really makes for a good weekend.

I have been needing to replace my bank card for over six months and I finally get to do that today.
I can get a new pair of boots too, the current ones have pretty much fallen apart in about 3 months, I'm really not impressed...

My initial ring is over thirty years old and has been repaired more times than I can count. It is at the jewelries right now to have a new screw put in the initial as needs to be done about once every five years. I got it when I was sixteen and has more than tripled in size and I don't know just how much more gold. It is a size 16 with a square, blue sapphire.

Kinda worried about my dog too, he is about 12 years old and having a bitch of a time getting up when we want to take him out, especially in the morning before the kid leaves for school and I leave for work. Sometimes he forgets himself when someone knocks at the door, and jumps off the couch. The barking is more like a surprised whine as if to say, "I want to greet that person at the door but damn, that really hurts...."

Anyway, enough for now, have a great Friday

Happy HNT!!!!!!!

Now have a second camera so the only excuse for no HNT pics is creativity.....

This is one of my meat hooks, only one, gotta save the other for another time......

It's hard to see it in the first pic but there is a nasty scar on the back of my thumb where I caught it on a steel tool box on the side of a truck. It took a couple of weeks for it to heal and the ol' man was some pissed cause I couldn't help while bleeding like a stuck pig.

People have told me that the "squareness" of my hand is a sign of a man who will always have to work for a living, I'm assuming hard labour although, I do have a sedentary job at this point cause the knees are no longer functioning as needed for truck driving. A profession I thought I had been born for.

This last one is a better size indicator. That is an MX500 Logitech mouse behind it and it just disappears into my hand. The ring that is not present here, it needed repairs again, is a size 16. No off the rack rings for this guy.

Anyway, have a great HNT!

A Couple of Interesting Pics....

These were just some pics I found in my surfing the "World Wide Web"...

Yea, I know, it's a cheap posting but this is supposed to be mid-winter and trying to find something to post is a bit of a problem and especially when most of yer day is taken up with work...

Anyway, I have Friday off this week so I'll see if I can get some topics ahead for next week...

Things that make you go hhmm.... 51

Seems that winter has been vacationing. Heard that Hawaii is expecting some really good skiing with the snow that is due...

Looks like we are finally gonna get a little tiny taste of it here too. Supposed to go down to minus five tomorrow and expecting a few centimeters of snow. Looks like a few plants that have been fooled by the warm weather are about to get a rude awakening (killing?).

At least it hasn't been too bad for heating the house this winter.

The other thing that this warm winter is messing with is the our conditioning.

Your body has been conditioned for a good cold season but is having trouble adjusting. There seem to be fewer colds but there seems to be a crap load of viruses around.

I happen to have vulnerable sinuses. I have a sleeping problem that requires a machine to correct and because of the way it functions, when I get a sinus infection, it hangs around for a long time and can get rather vicious.

I can say that I really am getting sick of the smell of fresh cut grass and lawnmower fumes. Imagine smelling that twentyfour seven.

Anyway, have a great day, I'm going to try...

Sunday.... hhmmm....50

Well, here it is Sunday again and the only thought on my mind besides the few things I have to get done today is the thought that I got to be back at that hell hole called work again tomorrow....

We should work two days and take five off...

That would work so well for me.....

I'm a night person anyway and getting up for anything before noon is just not me...

I'm not sure if my internal clock could handle another drastic change like that though,

It took almost two weeks to adjust the last time I went from a night shift t a day one....

Sorry bout this but gonna be another short one..

Seems like the time in a day is getting a whole lot shorter...

Til tomorrow...

Check out the top of the blog roll for the newest crap from me. Give me some feedback so I know if it is worth keeping or not....

Got new second camera and portable printer. Should be getting more random pics of our own. Giving the camera to the kid to use. Not getting the printer though....

OK, so can somebody tell what the hell happened to winter? Here it is past the middle of January and we are still above freezing? What the hell is up with that? Not to mention the damned rain, I think I just mentioned that...... crap...

It will soon be income tax time and I get to watch all of mine taken to be put against the student loan I still owe. Oh well, at least it isn't being taken from my regular pay...

Gonna be getting a new satellite receiver this weekend and back to watching TV after doing without since July.... I refused to pay what ever amount Bell dreamed up each month and what channels they decided I would get with the original package I purchased. They have the nerve to be calling my home and leaving messages as much as twice a day and even on Saturday's. This has been going on for over a year.....

Time to check on the mutt, he is twelve now, and finds it really hard to get off the couch what with the arthritis and all. When someone knocks at the door, he still flies off the couch and gets almost to the door with the attitude he has as a Pit Bull and then realizes just how much he is hurting. It is no longer a scary barking but like a really vicious whining.....

Enough for now..

I now have another camera and printer...

Not a bad deal but I'm not sure if they management thinks they are buying me or just what.....

There were three metrics that had to be met for the month of December and if you did, you were entered into a draw for some of the client product.

I managed to get into the "draw" and won too.

I like the "gift" but wonder what they think they are going to attempt to get me to do?

I guess I'll have to wait and see....

My yearly review is coming up too, wonder if it'll be some form of warning.....

Things that make you go hhmm.... 47

Now remember, this is all over a $30 product....

Bzzttt...

"Thank you for calling the xxxxxxx, my name is xxxxxxx, how may I assist you today?"

"My xxxxxx has never worked!"

"And what is the product you are calling about?"

"xxxxx, and it hasn't worked from the beginning!"

"That product has been out of production for at least three years."

"But it has never worked!"

"When did you purchase it?"

"I got it in October of 2004."

"Do you have the proof of purchase?" (I can replace out of warranty products if I feel it is warranted among other options, but there has to be a good reason)

"I can't get that and you know it!"

"If you purchased it when you claim, the store should have the record, they are required to keep sales records for several years by law." (this I know from experience and more than one customer has sheepishly called me back with the required receipt)

"You know I am not going to be able to get that receipt for a product that is a couple of years out of warranty!"

"You just claimed that it was a little over a year old and if you can produce a receipt to prove that, I will exchange it with no further questions."

"I found a lot of people having the same issue on the internet and they were replacing them because it was a known issue."

"I know of no such known issue and reiterate my offer." (don't EVER throw that known issue defense in because it will never be admitted by any company, you would be dumber for mentioning it in the first place and of course, pick any item that has been made and you can find derogatory information on the web, think before you speak!)

"I know as well as you that I am not getting the proof of purchase!" (of course I know it because the last time you called in was over two and a half years previous)

Within ten minutes of hanging up with this customer, I find a voicemail from her. It describes how she is going to insert the product into my exit orifice. Now, I know I am not a small person but the product that she claims she will insert is the size of a small garbage can. And if she were to meet me face to face, she definitely would not have entertained the thought of telling me what to do with the product.

When I called back as is required by our processes, I got no reply which I expected but then she contacted the corporate office again by email. The product went from the original $30 price all the way to $200 and the $30 accessories went to over a $100 each.....

This makes you wonder....

What kind of reason would you use to qualify the fact that you have purchased the cheapest of the product lines on the ,market and expect it to be replaced more than three years out of warranty? What would possess a person to think that for a $30 product they should receive more than $1000 worth of support not to mention a replacement while out of warranty?

A little more to think about...

Had a customer call in and it went something like this.....

biizzztt

My speil, "Thankyou for calling the xxxxxxxxxxx, my name is xxxxxxxxx, how can I assist you tonight?"

"Give me the number to the President!"

"Excuse me, you mean the CEO of the company?"

"Yea, I want to talk to him right now!"

"What is the issue sir?"

"I went through this 4 times before, give me the number for the presidents office!!"

"Uh, when you contact the corporate office, you are transferred to the xxxx team of which I am one. We can resolve any issue you may be having but I'll need some information first."

"I'm not going through that shit again!"

Well, I'll need either your name, a phone number or a case number before we can proceed to anything else."

"Just transferr me to the presidents office now!!!"

"No sir, I am the person you will be dealing with on whatever issue you are experiencing."

"You have a supervisor?"

"No sir."

You are the supervisor?"

Yes sir."

"You pay yourself?"

"No sir."

"I want to talk to your supervisor now!!!"

"No sir, not unless I have a name or some way of identifying you."

"Just get him now!!!!!!"

"You are just a voice on the other end of a phone, I will need some identification of some sort."

"Fucking asshole, I'm not going through this shit again!!!"

Click.

I truly wonder what the guy wanted?

Just how high up a ladder do people really think they can go?

Do they really believe that the CEO of a multi-million dollar, multi-national company, has the time and inclination to talk to any and all clowns that think that warranties, policies, procedures don't apply to to them or have some other piece of gravel stuck in their craw?

Funny how all kinds of people think they are the special ones....

Funny how little ol' me can just say no and have it stick....

If they only knew....

It would be far better for business if the promotions were given to those that had actual merit, would the companies not be a whole lot further ahead and possibly more profitable?

I know, I know, same shit different day. Sounds like a guy that is crying into his Cheerios...

Yea, I got crewed out of a promotion but all who know me can see that I got the bums rush on this one.

I have been with the company for almost five and a half years but did not get the move to team supervisor merely because the asses that have the say know what I think of them.

Yea, this is personal.

May metrics are unbeatable and for the whole time I have been with the company.

This is the same management team that throws incentives out to the people below them, only to take it away or make it almost impossible to do what is required to get them....

I'll leave it at that for now.

I am just working on my next move to stop this shit from happening anymore. The sign in front of the building wants people to come to work and build a career with the company, yea, right......

Damn.....

It is Friday the 13th and a full moon.

What kind of shit is going to hit the fan today?

No doubt, we are going to have people who have gone completely off their sticks calling in today.

Why is it that most people who have issues with products truly believe that the warranties do not apply to them?

I had a guy call in on a unit that was over a year out of warranty and was demanding we exchange it for a new one. He hadn't even made contact with the company in that year so there was no documentation that he may have had any problems with it.

Needless to say, he was not at all happy when I told him that he wasn't getting anything.

Listening to the radio this morning, one of the local city council people died yesterday. The mayor was quoted as say that the person who died was the nicest person she knew.

Why is it you hear all of this praise about even the most obnoxious and unliked people? Even if they were absolutely hated, all you will hear is that they were such good people?

I think the truth should be told. Will telling the truth condemn you to hell when its your time?

So be it, I really don't care what others think of me.

Anyway, just a little more hhmmm....

Things that make you go hhmm.... 44

Here it is hydro bill time again....

In this great province, we are supposed to get a bit of a rebate on the electricity because it cost less to produce in the summer of 04. Well, I got mine to the tune of $124, yay!

Then you look at the rest of the bill..... That leaves the balance owing at $718... WTF!!!

How the hell can an electricity company qualify the "delivery" charge? It cost them $233 to "deliver" the electricity to my house?

And since when, other than with this frickin government, do you pay the outstanding balance from a company that went bankrupt? That cost me a mere $52 for this period....

The last time I had a hydro bill this high, I had allowed estimated bills for a couple of years before actually taking a meter reading.

This is making alternative, off the grid, energy creation look a whole lot more attractive.

I need to get a piece of land way back in the woods, setup a ground source heat pump, wind powered electricity generator, satellite TV and a cell phone to get off the giant treadmill that the utility companies have become.

A crap load of miffed hhmmm....

BTW, my latest replacement camera should arrive today. They tried to deliver yesterday but no one was here to sign for it and unlike the US, we have to get signatures before leaving something. At least I can get a new HNT pic for tomorrow.

Things that make you go hhmm.... 43

Well, this week started off a little differently..

I got my interview for a supervisor position but I think they threw in some loaded questions and I really think that they are trying to find a way to eliminate me from being considered.

If I don't get the position, I will be taking it to the top of the pike.

This company has a huge problem with attrition but they aren't looking at what management is doing to cause it. The CEO wants the company to be a place where people want to come to work but the lower and middle management in this site, does nothing to keep the people wanting to come back to work everyday.

My team has set metrics to meet but they have essentially gotten completely unrealistic. We have a service level to meet which is 90% of the incoming calls answered. We also have to make a certain number of outbound calls to try to contact other customers.

There is no balance. You have to make all of the out bounds while taking all of the inbound. This seems to be an impossibility. When I noted that they can choose one or the other, they come back with "not an option"

Apparently, there has to be nothing reasonable.

People out side the company would better understand if I spent a crap load more time explaining the processes we have to follow but I haven't the inclination nor the time to put it down here. Suffice it to say that reasonable is not a part of the managements vocabulary.

A huge pile of hhmmm.....

Things that make you go hhmm.... 42

I'm going to jump on that maintenance, sorry, non-maintenance of the pedestrian walkways again...

We had a good sized snow storm before Christmas this year, dumped about 1-2 feet of snow on us.

The city, in it's infinite wisdom, decided that the sidewalks did not need to be cleared until almost a week later.

As a pedestrian, I walk to work, home and pretty much anywhere I need/want to go.

That day, I was forced by the non-maintenance, to walk "on" the highway to get to work. I would walk along the outside lane until I came to a driveway, move into the driveway, watch and wait for the traffic to clear and then back out there to walk to the next driveway.

I made it about halfway when I was picked up by an acquaintance who worked in our IT department.

Three days later, I was headed over to my ex-wifes place to see my daughter as she lives with her Mother, and took a lot of pictures of the unkempt sidewalks.

This is the same city that tried to institute another by-law against frivolous lawsuits, it already has over 30,000 bylaws now which is 4 times the number in a city that is more than twice its size.

Would a lawsuit be out of line if I, as the sidewalks were impassable, were to sue for any harm that may have come to my from walking on the road? Maybe being hit by a car? Maybe falling and breaking a leg, or arm? Maybe having a heart attack from trying to walk through the 2 feet of snow on the sidewalk?

Anyway, the thing that kicked me off on this tangent again was the sight I saw last night. I was downtown doing my laundry when what did I see? Their sidewalk plows were out!

They went up and down both sides of the street that the laudro mat is on and the highway that the dead end street I live on comes off.

The thing about last night is the fact that we barely had a dusting of snow? WTF?

The only thing I can think of is that these characters are being paid for the amount of snow they move and not an hourly wage.

Maybe they were short on their holiday pay and needed to make up a little more in the first pay of the new year. I really can't figure this out.

I also have a bone to pick with some of the people who either don't like pedestrians or believe them to be an unnecessary evil in their neighborhoods.

One in particular, along the stretch that I follow to get to work, has a very nice, big house and lot, and takes very meticulous care of his property.

When it snows, his is one of the first places on that stretch of highway to be plowed....

The problem is, he will have the snow pushed up across the sidewalk. You wind up having to climb a snow bank on either side of both ends of his "U" shaped driveway to get by his house.

I have found that churches are the same way. I have the pics to prove it! They clear their parking lot and push the snow across the sidewalks. The last time they left almost four foot high banks that you had to get to the road to get around.

These are supposed to be "people" places! Apparently not. Seems they only want the people with enough money to purchase cars, that way they know the contribution plates will have enough green for the churches....

Anyway, enough for now. You know they are only going to continue to give me material for this thing I call a blog....

Things that make you go hhmm.... 41

Seems this counting the different types of posts I was throwing in here seems to be going a little off kilter, pretty much the same as my life......

Just got a letter from the hydro company and trying figure out the sense. They want it noted that they did not have access to the hydro meter with the excuse that no one was at home....

My meter is inside my locked basement.

Hhmmm... lets think about this one.....

I leave the house between 8:00 and 8:30 each morning and don't arrive back here until between 7:00 and 8:00 in the evening, and that would be Monday to Friday. That couldn't be the reason no one was at home could it?

The hours that most companies have their contact centers or people available don't take into consideration when the people might be available to contact.

I have the same issue with my ISP. Their billing/credit department is only open during "normal business hours" which puts contacting them into a cost situation for me. If there was an issue with a billing that may be late for whatever reason, I would have to take time off work to contact them to resolve it. This would mean that not only would the billing cost me but so would having to take time from my job and not getting paid for that time..

Doesn't make much sense does it?

It is getting to a point that if the companies truly believe that the customer that pays the wages or salary of those that make the policies and procedures, really count, they are going to have to make a more concerted effort to accommodate them.

As usual, any comments are most welcome.

Hhmmm...

TGI frickin F......

Friday, the last day before the weekend......

In one way this is a day I look forward to because there are two days off following it but then I spend the weekend thinking how short a time I have before having to go back to the hell hole I call work.

Seems like I don't care for my job, doesn't it?

I like the work for the most part but I believe management is just not there for the people that they should be.

There are now 38 people on my team and there are certain metrics that have to be met but there are requirements for meeting those metrics. Some of the people consistently cheat the system to meet their metrics but management doesn't seem to be at all worried about it. Those of us that do the job as required, don't cheat the system and miss on one or two of the metrics are taken to task on it.

Why have the requirements and metrics if cheating is necessary to make them?

Why have the requirements when those that follow them are the ones that get the shit end of the stick?

I don't understand this at all. Maybe I should be cheating the system too. Wish I was built that way...

Another HNT...

Sorry if I'm recycling here but my camera just went in to be replaced again.....

There is a huge scar on the right side of this, my left knee. Thirty plus years ago, I had the first surgery performed on this particular joint. The cut was about 8 inches long and I guess it was a real hack job as indicated by the three subsequent surgeries on the same joint. The next time they operate on this one, which will not be for at least another fifteen to twenty years, it will be a complete joint replacement. I have also been advised that the other one will have to be done sometime after that too...

The 48 Laws of Power... 25/26

Law 25

Re-Create Yourself

Do not accept the roles that society foists on you. Re-create yourself by forging a new identity, one that commands attention and never bores the audience. Be the master of your own image rather than letting others define if for you. Incorporate dramatic devices into your public gestures and actions – your power will be enhanced and your character will seem larger than life.

Law 26

Keep Your Hands Clean

You must seem a paragon of civility and efficiency: Your hands are never soiled by mistakes and nasty deeds. Maintain such a spotless appearance by using others as scapegoats and cat’s-paws to disguise your involvement.

New Year

Hope everyone had fun and safe new years eve...

Totally and completely uneventful for me and mine..

Looking forward to what the new year will bring, can't be worse than the last one....

Short post tonight, haven't missed a single day since starting this blog.

Funny how I can enter the blogging world and join some of the activites that are out there like HNT and still not get any recognition....

I am a faithful poster and even post comments on other blogs but there seems to be little cliques that remain limited to the ones that are already members of said cliques and outsiders such as myself are unwelcome if not an annoyance to them, curious...

I do have some readers and a couple even added mine to their blog rolls, to them I say a heartfelt thanks.

I will be starting a new one that I will be linking to from here and my son will be joining in the posts to it.

It will be loosely base one the found photos idea which can be found here - http://www.10eastern.com/foundphotos/

Hope it attracts some attention, watch for it in the new year.

For now,
